Snake venom worth 150 Cr recovered in W.Bengal, two arrested

Kolkata/South Dinajpur, Sep 1 (IBNS) Forest department officials recovered snake poison worth Rs. 150 crore while two traffickers were arrested from Buniyadpur area in West Bengal's South Dinajpur district on Monday.

According to reports, forest department officials detained  the two persons from a bus at Buniyadpur area and the poison was recovered.

After primary interrogation they were handed over to the police.

Sanjay Dutta, Ranger of Baikunthapur Forest Range  told IBNS: "We had detained Izrail Hoque and Amar Mondal from a bus and after searching them, the forest guards recovered three Belgium glass containers of snake poisons in liquid, processed and crystal state. We also found 'Made in France' stickers on the containers. One 9mm pistol and few rounds of bullets were also recovered from them."

"The market value of the  poison they were carrying is about  Rs. 150 core. It  was  being trafficked to Bhutan from Bangladesh," he said.

The forest department is sending samples of the venom for forensic test.

The arrested will be produced to the court on Tuesday.

Police have started an  investigation into the case.

Six traffickers were arrested with nine pound 'Made in France' snake poisons worth 100 Cr from Belacoba area in WB's Jalpaiguri district earlier on July 27.
