Slip of tongue: Shatrughan Sinha clarifies his 'Jinnah' comment

Chhindwara, Apr 27 (IBNS): Actor-turned politician Shatrughan Sinha on Saturday clarified his "Jinnah" comment, which sparked a row, saying it was a 'slip of tongue', media reports said.

Addressing a rally in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara a day ago, Sinha had said: "The Congress family, from Mahatma Gandhi to Sardar Patel to Mohammad Ali Jinnah to Jawaharlal Nehru to Indira Gandhi to Rajiv Gandhi to Rahul Gandhi to Netaji Subhash Chnadra Bose. It is their party. They had the most important role in development and freedom of the country. This is the reason why I have come here."

Muhammad Ali Jinnah was the first Governor-General of Pakistan.

Following the comment, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched an attack on Sinha, who recently switched sides from the saffron party to Congress.

While holding a rally, BJP president Amit Shah said: "When Shatrughan Sinha was in our party, he used to speak about nationalism. The moment he joined Congress, he is praising Jinnah who is responsible for the division of the country."

Sinha was a critic of BJP even before joining the Congress.

After he was denied a ticket by BJP, the actor-politician joined the grand old party.
