Six die of asphyxiation in Tamil Nadu

Chennai, Mar 26 (UNI) In a tragic incident, six people died of asphyxiation after they inhaled a poisonous gas while cleaning a septic tank of an apartment at Nemili village near Sriperumbudur in Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.

Reports received at the police headquarters here said while four people, who entered the tank first, died after inhaling the toxic gas, two others, who went in to save them, also met with the same fate.

Three of the deceased were said to be members of a same family.

They were engaged by the building owner Krishnamurthy to clear a block in the tank and clean it when the tragedy occurred.

Acting on information, fire service personnel rushed to the spot, retrieved the bodies and sent to Government Hospital for post mortem.

Lack of safety gadgets and adequate precautionary measures were said to be the reason for the incident.

Police have registered a case and are investigating.
