Situation unprecedented in the country : Mamata
Kolkata, Mar 12 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday described as unprecedented the situation in the country.
"This is a challenging election, 19thMay, 2019 will be the end of Modi’s rule. A person who has instilled a sense of fear among the people must go. This is our challenge, " she said.
Banerjee today announced the names of the party’s candidates for the coming Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking on the occasion, the TMC supremo said, “About 41 per cent candidates this time are women. In 2014, we had 35 per cent women MPs.”
The TMC supremo alleged there is an atmosphere of fear in the country.
" In the name of strikes, extremism is being promoted with ulterior political motives, " she averred.
“Why did so many jawans die in Pulwama? Why did Uri and Pathankot attacks take place? Terrorism has increased 260 per cent, although they claimed demonetisation will put an end to terrorism?” she questioned.
“I pay homage to the jawans who lost their lives for the security of the country, and people who lost their lives in the last five years, “Banerjee said.
The chief minister said, “We are committed to maintaining the communal harmony and unity of the country.”
