Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut's statement on Shivaji: Lukewarm response to Sangli bandh

Sangli/UNI: The bandh called by the Sambhaji Bhide's Shri Shiv Pratishthan here on Friday received a lukewarm response as commercial establishments remained shut but the vehicular movement continued without any restriction.

The bandh was called in protest over Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut controversial statement of asking BJP leader Udayanraje Bhosale to prove his lineage to Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Commercial establishments, including hotels and vegetable and fruit markets, remained shut whereas public and private transport ply as usual.

Led by Bhide, the outfit's members demonstrated at Maruti Chowk and sloganeered against Sena's firebrand leader Raut.

Addressing the demonstrators, Bhide asserted that the bandh isn't against the Shiv Sena party but held to solely disapprove of Raut's "objectionable statement".

He even asked the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to take action against Raut.
Reiterating that he was not against Sena and instead hopes the party grows pan-India, Mr Bhide said that the statement was against the tradition.

He warned of a state-wide agitation if Raut doesn't face any action.

Sena city president Anil Shetye opposed the bandh and asked Bhide to welcome the Chief Minister, who was coming here on Friday for the first time after taking the reins of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.

He even advised Mr Bhide to meet the CM with his grievances.
