Sheila Dikshit backs BJP's bid to form govt in Delhi
New Delhi, Sept 11 (IBNS): Congress leader Sheila Dikshit, who has served as the Chief Minister of Delhi for three terms, on Thursday backed the Bharatiya Janata Party and said the party should be given a chance to form the government in Delhi.
Dikshit, who recently resigned as the governor of Kerala, told reporters here: "The BJP is claiming that they will be able to form a government, I think the party should be given a chanceand specially if the president of their party is saying so, I suppose he must be saying it with a sense of responsibility."
Her comments are being regarded as a sign of her preference for the BJP over the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), who defeated her in her assembly polls last year.
She also said that: "As far as I could understand, every MLA, whether he is from Congress or AAP or others, doesn’t want election. People are saying that the MLAs have just been elected and their membership has not crossed even one year. As far as I can understand and people are telling me that they (MLAs) want government to be formed.”
Reacting to her comment, Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed tweeted: "Shiela Ji's comments on govt formation in Delhi, may be her personal opinion.Congress MLAs&AICC r totally against extending support to BJP."
Sheila Dikshit recently resigned as the Governor of Kerala, capping speculations about her removal after the new BJP led government changed governors of several states appointed by the previous UPA regime.
