Sevaits of Jagannath Temple objects to Mamata's entry to shrine, 1 detained

Puri, Apr 18 (IBNS): Several sevaits have objected the entry of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to the shrine of Jagannath Temple because of her support to beef eaters.

Banerjee had planned to visit the temple during her three day visit to the state of Odisha, media reports said on Tuesday.

Following the objection, one sevait named  Somanath Khuntia was detained by the police.

Khuntia said that the WB CM has hurt several Hindus' feelings by supporting those who eat cow and buffalo meat.

Mamata is scheduled to begin her three day visit to Odisha on Tuesday, primarily to meet Trinamool Congress MP Sudip Bandopadhaya who is presently in the custody of Central Bureau Investigation.

The TMC MP was arrested for his alleged involvement in Rose Valley scam and taken in CBI custody in Bhuvaneshwar.

While Khuntia was detained for his objection, many other sevaits said that they would welcome Banerjee to the temple.

Mamata has earlier accused the Bharatiya Janata Party government in the different states of India for interfering into people's intake of beef following the ban on illegal slaughter houses of cow by UP government.

However, a leader of Odisha BJP said that the temple is for all Hindus.
