Senior professor of Assam Agriculture University suspended for sexual harassment

Guwahati, Sept 10 (IBNS): Assam Agriculture University (AAU) has suspended a senior professor for allegedly sexually harassed a girl student of the University.

According to the reports, the university on Monday suspended senior professor Dr Jyoti Kumar Gogoi following allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him a girl student

The girl student on Sept 6, lodged a written complaint with the Chairman of Women Harassment Cell of the University against 63-year-old Dr Gogoi stating that, when she went to the cabin of Dr Gogoi in the Department of Economics and Farm Management to learn about the seat availability for third counselling in master's degree, Dr Gogoi sexually harassed her.

Following the report of the Women Harassment Cell of Assam Agriculture University, Jorhat, the authorities of the University on Monday suspended the professor by issuing an order.

Assam Agriculture University (AAU) Vice Chancellor (acting) Ashok Bhattacharyya said that the statutory body of the University took the decision to suspend Dr Gogoi.

“The matter will be forwarded to the internal complaints committee of the University to probe and the committee will recommend for further action,” Bhattacharyya said.
