SC quashes Centre's decision to add Jats in OBC list

| | Mar 17, 2015, at 05:10 pm
New Delhi, Mar 17 (IBNS): In a significant development, the Supreme Court on Tuesday set aside the Central government's notification to include the Jat community in the OBC list, in a bid to give them the benefits of reservations.

In March last year, the UPA government at the Centre had issued the notification to include the community in the OBC list.

The move was made ahead of the Lok Sabha polls last year.

The BJP had defeated Congress in the polls to form the government at the Centre in May last year.

Large numbers of people belonging to the community are found in states like  Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
