Saradha scam: WB minister Madan Mitra summoned by CBI

Kolkata, Nov 19 (IBNS) Close on the heels of a suicide bid by imprisoned Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh who alleged that several top party leaders were being spared in the Saradha Chit Fund scam probe, West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra has finally been summoned by the investigating agency CBI.

Another Trinamool Congress party Rajya Sabha MP Srinjoy Bose has also been called to appear by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for questioning for the second time, said reports on Tuesday.

While the Opposition has stepped up the heat on Chief Minster Mamata Banerjee over the ponzi scheme meltdown scam that affected poor people statewide, Kunal Ghosh had alleged that many are being shielded in the scam.

Kunal Ghosh, who was suspended from TMC, had challenged the party to form an  internal probe panel over the  multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam.

Ghosh even accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of having benefitted the most from the chit fund.

A former West Bengal top cop turned TMC leader Rajat Majumdar was also earlier arrested.

Majumdar, who had worked as Director General (Armed Police) in West Bengal, was believed to be associated with the Saradha Group, which is caught in the chit fund scam worth crores of rupees belonging to the investors.

The Saradha Group that went bust last year left lakhs of depositors in a fix. 

Saradha Group chief Sudipta Sen and Saradha Group director Debjani Mukherjee were arrested in April 2013 from Jammu and Kashmir.

He was absconding since Saradha Group collapsed.

Sen had claimed that he was blackmailed and used by politicians mainly from Banerjee's Trinamool Congress.
