Mumbai, July 26 (IBNS) Hours after his tweets in support of Yakub Memon, who is convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, created a controversy, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan retracted them and apologised for his remarks.

In a series of tweets, Khan said,"I had tweeted that Tiger Memon should hang for his crimes and I stand by it. What i also said is that Yakub Memon should not hang for him."

"I have not said or implied that Yakub Memon is innocent. I have complete faith in the judicial system of our country," the actor said.

Retracting his earlier tweets, Khan said: "My dad called & said I should retract my tweets as they have the potential to create misunderstanding. I here by retract them."

"I would like to unconditionally apologise for any misunderstanding I may have created unintentionally. I also strongly condemn those who are claiming my tweets are anti religious. I have always said I respect all faiths and I always will," he said.

Khan earlier in the day raised his voice in support of  Yakub Memon and said his brother Tiger Memon should be paraded and hanged instead.

The Supreme Court  upheld Yakub's death sentence and refused to reconsider its decision following a petition by him.

Yakub Memon will be hanged on July 30.

"Hang tiger. Brother is being hanged for tiger. Aarrre Whr (where) is tiger?" tweeted Salman.

He said Yakub Memon's brother Ibrahim or Tiger Memon should be found and punished.

"1 innocent man killed is killing the humanity. Get tiger hang him. Parade him not his brother," Salman posted.

The actor said that he had "been wanting to tweet Tis (this) fr 3 days n (and) was afraid to do so but it involves a man's n (and) family. Don't hang brother hang tha lomdi (the fox) who ran away."

Salman also said that Yakub's brother does not deserve to be called 'Tiger'.

"N no 1 ever Address him as tiger ever . Does not deserve that at all. Hang that.............. fill in the blanks," tweeted the actor.

Memon, an accountant by profession,  will be the first to be executed for the attack that killed  more than  250 people.

The 53-year-old was found guilty in 2007 of financing the serial blasts.  His brother Essa and Yusuf and sister-in-law Rubina were all convicted of involvement in the blasts.

His case moved up to the Supreme Court which also upheld the death sentence and refused to reconsider its decision following a petition by Yakub.

Yakub Memon's brother Ibrahim or Tiger Memon and Dawood Ibrahim are also accused in the incident. They fled the country and have been living in abroad since then.
