Sadananda Gowda's son granted anticipatory bail
Bengaluru, Sept 8 (IBNS): Union Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda's son Kathik Gowda, who has been accused of raping, kidnapping and cheating by an actress, was on Monday granted anticipatory bail that protects him from arrest.
Karthik has been granted bail on conditions that he has to appear before police on 15th and 30th of every month.
He is also required to submit Rs 2 lakh personal bond along with 2 locals security.
Karthik has to submit his passport till the end of the trial.
On Sept 5, the eighth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court issued an arrest warrant against Karthik, who is now declared absconding with police teams on the lookout for him.
The arrest warrant was issued after he failed to appear before the court despite being served summons for two consecutive times.
Karthik is accused of rape, kidnapping and cheating by a Kannada actress who claims to be his wife.
The woman filed an FIR or police complaint hours after 30-year-old Karthik got engaged to another woman at Kushalnagar in Kodagu district in Bangalore last month.
In her complaint at RT Nagar police station, the woman claimed that she had met Karthik through a common friend.
Later Karthik took her to Mangalore and married her there on June 5.
“He tied the thali or mangalsutra on my neck. After that he told me I am his wife and I should listen to what he says. We became physically close after that. He did not even tell me he was getting engaged. He is my husband. He has to admit that he married me,” she earlier told the media.
She, however, said there is no proof of that marriage.
Following the complaint, a case was lodged against Karthik under IPC sections 376 (punishment for rape) and 420 (cheating).
Karthik, however, denied the charges saying, “My father is a respectable man. Why should I spoil it?”
On August 30, Karthik had moved city sessions court for anticipatory bail in the case.
Alleging a conspiracy, Sadananda Gowda earlier said, “I was shocked to see this report. It hurt me...I am not aware of what happened. But suddenly after the engagement if one girl claims such things, it leads to suspicion.”
He was also quoted as saying, “Law will take its own course.”
