Sabarmati Express passenger train derails near Kanpur, no injury reported

Kanpur/IBNS: Twenty-two coaches of Sabarmati Express passenger train on Saturday derailed between Kanpur and Bhimsen Station in Uttar Pradesh after its engine hit an object on the tracks, media reports said.

The train was enroute from Varanasi to Ahmedabad.

No injury and casualty has been reported.

The Indian Railways has sent buses for the passengers to reach their destination.

The derailment occurred at 2:29 am on Saturday, about half-an-hour after departing from Kanpur Central Station.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw posted on X, "The engine of Sabarmati Express (Varanasi to Amdavad) hit an object placed on the track and derailed near Kanpur at 02:35 am today.

"Sharp hit marks are observed. Evidence is protected. IB and UP police are also working on it. No injuries to passengers or staff. Train arranged for passengers for onward journey to Amdavad."

Several trains have been diverted or cancelled due to the derailment.
