S Jaishankar to represent Indian government in Donald Trump's swearing-in ceremony
Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will visit the USA in the upcoming days to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Donald Trump on January 20, the Indian government said on Sunday.
Jaishankar will represent the Indian government at the event.
"On the invitation of the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee, External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar will represent the Government of India at the Swearing-In Ceremony of President-Elect Donald J. Trump as the 47th President of the United States of America," read a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.

"During the visit, EAM will also have meetings with representatives of the incoming Administration, as also some other dignitaries visiting the US on that occasion," the statement said.
Outgoing President Joe Biden is expected to attend the event and witness the transfer of power.
Trump did not attend Biden's inauguration in 2020 after he was defeated in the Presidential polls.
According to media reports, several world leaders are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
Trump had previously served his first term as President from 2017 to 2021.
