RSS PM speaks lies to country: Rahul attacks Modi over 'detention centres' claim

New Delhi/IBNS: Hitting out at Narendra Modi who claimed no detention centre has been made in any part of the country, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called the Prime Minister a liar citing a media report showing presence of such camps in Assam where a National Register of Citizens (NRC) has already been conducted.

Accusing the Opposition of fear-mongering over detention centres, Modi at a rally in Delhi's Ramlila Maidan on last Sunday said, "I will tell to all those who are still confused that the Congress and the Urban Naxals-led rumours about detention centres are complete lies and have ill-intentions."

A BBC report, which has been shared by Rahul on Twitter, states the Union Home Ministry is spending Rs. 40 crore to build the detention centres, 70 per cent of which have already been built.

Attacking the Prime Minister, Rahul said on Twitter, "The Prime Minister of RSS speaks lies to the country."

Modi on Sunday also said the central government has never discussed National Register of Citizens (NRC) though the Prime Minister on several occasions had earlier said the NRC will be conducted following the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 (CAB) which is now an Act.

The Prime Minister's words have also contradicted with the statement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah who had repeatedly in various parts of the country and also in Parliament said the NRC will be conducted only after passing the CAB and all infiltrators will be thrown out of the country.

However, in a U-turn, Shah in an interview with ANI on Tuesday said nothing has been discussed regarding NRC yet.
