Una, Gujarat, Aug 15 (IBNS): Radhika Vemula, whose young son Rohith committed suicide at a university in Hyderabad in January, hoisted the National Flag on Monday at a school in Una on the occasion of the Independence Day.

Una has been a centre of attention since four Dalit men were tied and beaten up by a group of cow vigilantes.

Thousands of people gathered in the Una ground where they pledged they will not remove dead cows or skin them.

Kanhaiya Kumar, the student from Jawaharlal Nehru University who was arrested on charges of sedition in February, was also present here.
