Rohingyas should get citizenship, says Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav in Upper House

New Delhi/UNI: Demanding citizenship to Rohingyas from Myanmar, Samajwadi Party lawmaker Ram Gopal Yadav on Wednesday asked the Government to suspend the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and said that the Muslims, who have been engaged in making the country beautiful, should not be looked down upon with mistrust.

Participating in the debate on 'Motion of Thanks' on the President's address in the Upper House, Yadav further said that this Government talks about 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Vishwas (….),' but it's own leaders do not trust this Government.

Demanding the suspension of CAA immediately, the SP lawmaker asked the Government that all prosecuted persons, irrespective of their religion, should be given citizenship, including the Rohingyas from Myanmar.

Urging the Government to have a liberal approach, Yadav said the entire community cannot be mistrusted, due to some acts of wrongheaded persons.

Commenting on the mandate given to BJP in the last general elections, he said that they have got mandate to destroy this country.

Talking about the foreign policy of the Government, the SP lawmaker said that a successful foreign policy is that in which ''one counts how many countries are with you, but here, even our neighbouring countries are against us.'

Debating on the situation in Kashmir, Yadav said that if everything is well there, then why three former Chief Ministers have been kept in confinement, they should have been released. He also demanded immediate release of the three Chief Ministers.

The President, in his speech, had said that Articles 370 and 35 A have been removed by the two third majority amendment, which was totally incorrect.

''I remember when this Bill was brought to this House, I raised my objections that these two provisions could be removed through the constitutional amendment, but the Home Minister had said that this was not required to remove those Articles.

''The President must warn this Government for giving wrong information,'' Yadav added.

Talking about the increased Minimum Support Price (MSP) by the Government, Mr Yadav said they are not getting buyers on MSP and they are forced to sell their produces on market price.
