Rewari, Sept 23 (IBNS): An Indian Army soldier, who is the main accused in the gangrape of a former CBSE topper in Haryana's Rewari area, was arrested by the police on Sunday.

Another accused has also been arrested.

The Haryana Police’s special investigation team arrested armyman Pankaj and Manish for the alleged gangrape of the 20-year-old woman in Rewari on Sept 12.

Earlier, the police had arrested the third accused named Nishu Phogat.

The arrests have been made by the Special Investigation Team or SIT, which was formed to investigate the case.

Meanwhile, the seven-month pregnant wife of armyman Pankaj has approached the SIT for release of her family members stating that they have no connection with her husband.

The SIT has detained about 100 persons as a part of their investigation which includes Pankaj's in-laws.

Since the incident came to light, Pankaj's wife has been living with her parents and her younger brother.

On Sept 12, a 19-year-old student, who had topped the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examination, was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped by a group of men in Haryana.
