Resume peace talks with rebels: AJYCP
The students organisation further threatens to launch a statewide agitation if the Centre fails to hold the peace parleys with the rebels afresh.
In a statement issued in Guwahati, AJYCP president Biraj Kumar Talukdar deplored that neither Delhi nor Dispur has invited the rebel outfits to resume the peace talks.
“The Centre has invited not even a single rebel group for talks. Doesn’t it suggest lack of goodwill and interest to allow peace to prevail in Assam?,” said Talukdar.
The AJYCP leader said that the government would have to pay heavy price if it keeps mum on the issue.
“If the Government fails to resume the talks it would be missing another chance to help Assam restore peace. We find it difficult to understand why the Centre has yet to resume the talks or why the Sonowal Government fails to mount pressure on the Centre for it. Over the years, we have noticed that the Centre has been downplaying the major issues in Assam as law and order problem. The measures to quell these issues have been doing more harm than good," Talukdar said.
