Republic Day : Kashmir shuts amid restrictions and Communication blockade

| @indiablooms | Jan 26, 2018, at 06:30 pm

Srinagar, Jan 26 (IBNS) : The Kashmir Valley is observing a complete shutdown on the Republic Day Friday amid stringent security against any possible protest or militant attack.

All the shops, commercial establishments and petrol pumps are closed while public and private vehicles are also off the road.

All the roads in the city, which otherwise remain abuzz with traffic, wear a deserted look with police manning barricades at different intersections.

Large number of police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel  have been deployed on  roads.

The call for shutdown was given by the Joint resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, supported by militant outfits like Hizbul Mujhadeen and Lashkar-e-Toiba.

All the roads leading to Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, the venue for R-Day celebrations in Srinagar, have been sealed by security men.

Besides Srinagar city, complete shutdown is also being observed in all the districts of North, South and Central Kashmir.

Mobile Internet services continue to be shut from Thursday evening. Even call facilities have been stopped.

However, broadband services are operational.
