Republic Day : Assam sounds high alert apprehending militant attack

Guwahati, Jan 11 (IBNS)  :  The Assam Police have sounded a high alert against a possible militant attack ahead of  the Republic Day celebrations in the state.

Following the inputs of Intelligence Bureau (IB),  the Assam police have  issued a cautionary notice to all district police headquarters, specially those located on the borders of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and Meghalaya,  to take adequate measures against such eventualities.

The IB has recently alerted Assam police that  several militant groups,  including Paresh Baruah-led ULFA (I),  are planning to attack security forces and  create untoward situation ahead of  the Republic Day. 

Assam DGP Mukesh Sahay said Assam police had already alerted all district police to take guard against any untoward situation.

“Several militant groups have planned to attack security personnel. Apart from this, some militants of ULFA (I), NSCN (K) are also trying to enter into Assam from Arunachal Pradesh border. Following the intelligence inputs we have alerted the bordering districts with Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and Meghalaya to take appropriate measures,” Sahay said.

Recently two ULFA (I) militants were injured in gun fight with the troops of Assam police and Assam Rifles at Jagun area in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district along with Arunachal Pradesh border.
