Reports on Arun Jaitley's health condition baseless, says govt

New Delhi, May 26 (UNI): The government on Sunday said that reports in a section of media regarding Union minister Arun Jaitley's health condition were false and baseless and advised media to stay clear of rumour mongering.

''Reports in a section of media regarding Union Minister Shri Arun Jaitley's health condition are false and baseless. Media is advised to stay clear of rumour mongering,'' said PIB DG Sitanshu Kar on mico-blogging site Twitter.

Mr Jaitley, who is one of the top leaders in the BJP and the government, was not seen at the celebrations at BJP headquarters on Thursday night. Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah gave victory speeches at the event.

Mr Jaitley, a lawyer-turned politician, is diabetic and his health deteriorated after he had a kidney transplant in May last year.

Mr Piyush Goyal presented the interim Budget as Mr Jaitley was in a US hospital.

However, Mr Jaitley has been publishing blogs and messages on social media through the general elections.
