Realised that Indian govt is second father to my daughter: Father of Indian student evacuated from Italy

Mumbai/IBNS: The Indian government is drawing a lot of praise for its prompt response to the SOS calls of Indians stranded in foreign countries amid coronavirus outbreak.

The emotional story of a father who was left distraught after his daughter was stuck in coronavirus-stricken Italy has attracted a lot of attention.

Sujay Kadam, the father, said he had been critical of the Indian government, but now feels that the government has played the role of a father to all those stuck in trouble-torn countries hit by the deadly coronavirus.

Daughter of Kadam, a resident of Mumbai in Maharashtra, had gone to Milan on Feb 4 to study her Masters, but her college closed down on March 10, when Italy went under complete lockdown to tackle the massive outbreak of the deadly virus.

According to a Times Now report, Kadam said everything was fine till Feb 28 and his daughter even signed a rent agreement for four months but soon the situation worsened and his daughter was in trouble.

Not expecting an immediate response from the Indian government, he sent an SOS mail to the Indian embassy in Italy on March 12,2020, said the report.

However, on March 13 the Indian Embassy in Italy called him and informed that his daughter will be evacuated and return to India on March 14.

His daughter returned on March 15 and was quarantined at the ITBP facility in Gurugram.

He thanked the Indian government and the Air India crew and the ITBP hospital staff.

The grateful father said the Indian government took care of everything from food to medication just as the parents do for their children.

"I used to think I am the only father of my daughter but now I have found out that the Modi government is the second parent to my daughter. Thanks to the PM... I will work for him voluntarily," he was quoted as saying in the Times Now report.

Based on his experience, Kadam has advised the student standard in foreign countries and their parents not to panic as "the Indian Embassy is taking good care of all Indian citizens as their kids".

As per the latest reports, 31,506 people have been infected with coronavirus in Italy with 2,503 deaths and 2,941 recoveries.
