Ravi Shankar Prasad releases Digital North East India Vision 2022
Guwahati, Aug 11 (IBNS): In a bid to leverage digital technologies to transform lives of the people of North East, enhance ease of living and ensure inclusive and sustainable growth, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday released Digital North East India Vision 2022.
Digital India is a flagship programme approved by Government of India with a vision to transform the country into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy.
Digital NE India Vision 2022 envisages to implement the Digital India initiatives in North East through optimum utilization of information, communication and technology.
Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that enunciated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Digital India assumed the form of a people’s movement.
Through Digital India, Modi sought to set a direct connection of India with rest of the globe.
“The Centre has put tremendous impetus for strengthening the digital infrastructure of the North East. Under the programme efforts have been made to bring in all the people of the region under digital influence. Under the direction of the Prime Minister, the Union Minister along with other senior officers have come to North East to assess the implementation of Digital India programme in the region,” Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
Prasad also said that six medical college including Gauhati Medical College, Dibrugarh Medical College will get the benefits of e-class and besides opening a Regional Data Centre in Guwahati, the seat capacity at BPOs in North East will be increased from 5000 to 10,000.
He also said 50 thousand government employees will be encompassed under digital technology.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbanada Sonowal, who was present at the occasion, said that to stimulate the development of North East, Prime Minister Modi wanted to connect the region with digital platform.
He also said that the region will not be lagging behind if the educated workforce of the region are empowered to use digital technologies.
“Programmes implemented by the Centre for the development of communication in the region has led to injecting confidence in the young minds. This vision will play the role of a catalyst to energise the communication of North East with the ASEAN and BBN countries in the face of Act East Policy,” Sonowal said.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb and several other ministers from the North East also spoke on the occasion.
Synchronising with the programme the Union Minister also laid the foundation stone of National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology in Guwahati and other four cities of the region.
Prasad also inaugurated a BPO Unit for Majuli under North East BPO Promotion Scheme.
On the other hand, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a press conference that – we are now trying to implement the Digital NE India Vision 2022 as per direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The Union government has come to North East instead of North East going to Delhi during Modi government and we want the North East region to go ahead. We are thinking about all round developments for all states,” Prasad said.
