Ayodhya/UNI: After nearly three decades, a religious ceremony is being held at the Ram Janmabhoomi here on Wednesday to launch the formal construction work for a grand Ram temple.

A Rudra Abhishek ceremony was held at Kuber Tila on Wednesday morning by several saints and mahants.

As due to the Coronavirus crisis, plans to hold a grand "bhumi pujan" ceremony, in which Prime minister Narendra Modi was expected to attend, has been put off, hence this small Rudra Abhishek ceremony was done to start the construction work of the Ram temple.

Mahant Kamal Nayan Das said today that the temple construction work has started after the 'Rudra Abhishek' .

"We have followed the tradition of Lord Rama by offering prayers first to Lord Shiva before starting any religious work," he said.

The Kuber Tila is one of the oldest Shiva temples and the religious function was held there.

During the Rudra Abhishek ceremony, 11 litres of milk of black cow was offered on the Shivling and the saints prayed for obstacle-free construction work for a grand Ram temple.
