New Delhi/Uri, Sept 18 (IBNS): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday condemned the deadly attack at Uri's army base camp in Jammu and Kashmir which left 17 Indian soldiers killed and blamed Pakistan for supporting terrorism and terror groups.

Singh assured that those responsible for the attack will be punished.

"Deeply distressed at the terror incident in Uri and the loss of 17 brave soldiers martyred. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured," Singh tweeted.

He wrote: "My heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyred soldiers. Those behind this terror incident would be brought to justice."

Blaming Pakistan as a supporter of terrorism, he said; "Pakistan is a terrorist state and it should be identified and isolated as such."

"There are definite and conclusive indications that the perpetrators of Uri attack were highly trained, heavily armed and specially equipped," he posted.

"I am deeply disappointed with Pakistan’s continued and direct support to terrorism and terrorist groups," Singh added.

The state of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday witnessed one of the deadliest attacks in a decade's time when four heavily armed terrorists sneaked into the 12 Brigade Army camp in Uri sector, leaving 17 jawans killed.

The terror strike took place 100 kms from state capital Srinagar, in North Kashmir Uri town near the line of control.

Hundreds of army jawans were sleeping in tents when terrorists threw grenades and started heavy firing on tents, leaving 17 army personnel dead.

Soon after the firing, large number of reinforcement rushed towards the camp along with para commodes, who have been dropped via helicopter inside the camp, to eliminate the militants.

The attack is believed to have been mounted by the terror group Lashkar e-Taiba and backed by Pakistan's spy agency ISI.

Following the attack,Singh conducted an emergency meeting on Sunday afternoon.
