Rajnath approves raising of eight IR Battalions in AP, Telangana

New Delhi, Nov 19 (IBNS): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the raising of 8 India Reserve (IR) Battalions in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in a phased manner.
Under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act,2014, the Central government shall assist the successor states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to raise additional police force. 
 
Accordingly, the Union Home Minister approved 2 Battalions in this financial year and one Battalion each in the next two financial years in both the states. 
 
As per the approved scheme, the government of India will reimburse a maximum amount of Rs. 51.19 crores per IR Battalion which includes Rs. 26.19 crores as 75% of the standard of raising i.e. Rs. 34.92 crores and 50% of the infrastructure cost (excluding cost of land) up to a maximum of Rs. 25.00 crore.
