Rahul slams Centre over passage of bill to repeal farm laws without discussion

"It is unfortunate that the Bill to repeal the three farm laws was passed in Parliament without any discussion. It shows the Government is terrified of discussion as it knows that it has done wrong. We wanted to discuss who were the forces behind these 'black laws,' the death of 700 farmers during agitation, Minimum Support Price (MSP) and Lakhimpur Kheri (UP) incident," said the miffed former Congress president, while talking to reporters outside Parliament.

Gandhi, who has been accusing the ruling dispensation of favouring some industrialists, attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and further said, "These laws do not just reflect the view of the PM. It reflects the power of people and forces behind the PM. So, we wanted to have a discussion."

"The government at the end had to repeal the three 'black laws'. This is a victory for farmers and the country. Government thought that poor farmers and working people could be crushed, but this episode has shown that they cannot be suppressed," the Congress leader said.

Earlier, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, while moving the Bill in the Rajya Sabha for consideration, categorically said the government had brought the three agriculture laws in the interest of the farmers, but decided to cancel them, as it failed to make the ryots understand the benefits.
