Rahul Gandhi slams BJP-led government, says country is trapped in a modern-day 'Chakravyuh'

Taking reference from the Hindu epic Mahabharata, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday launched a scathing attack on PM Narendra Modi and his government and said it has trapped the country in a 'Chakravyuh' and the Congress and the Opposition alliance will break this and give the people of the country their rights.

Participating in a discussion over the Union Budget presented last week by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Gandhi said: "Like the Chakravyuh of Mahabharat that killed Abhimanyu, another name of Chakravyuh is Padmavyuh, which is in the shape of a lotus flower."

"Youth, farmers, women, small and medium businesses are receiving the same treatment today like Abhimanyu received then," he said in the Lok Sabha.

"Abhimanyu was killed by six people. There are six people in the centre of 'chakravyuh' and they are Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Mohan Bhagwat, Ajit Doval, Ambani and Adani," Gandhi said.

When Speaker Om Birla intervened, Gandhi said: "If you want, I will omit the names of NSA Doval, and of Ambani and Adani, and take just three names."

"The Chakravyuh that has captured India has three forces behind it. First is the idea of monopoly capital, the second element is the institutions, agencies such as CBI, ED, Income Tax department of this nation and the third is the political executive”.

He said the 'Chakravyuh' is devastating the country.

The Raebareli MP criticised the Union Budget and said, "My expectation was that this budget would weaken the power of this Chakravyuh. It would help the farmers of the country, the youth, labourers, and small businesses of the country. But what I have seen is that, the sole aim of this budget is to strengthen this framework of big businesses, monopoly, framework of political monopoly that destroys the democratic structure and finally the framework of the deep state or the agencies."

He slammed the internship programme which was announced in the Union Budget and said: " This programme is like first you break their legs and then apply bandage on it."

Trying to corner the government over the paper leak issue, the MP said: "Paper leak is the biggest issue for the youth today, but the Finance Minister did not mention a single word on it in the budget."

"On the contrary, she has reduced the money allotted to the education budget," he said.

The NEET-UG exam, taken by nearly 24 lakh aspiring medical students, was held on May 5, and the results were released on June 4.

Despite the National Testing Agency (NTA)'s efforts to manage the situation, allegations of a widespread leak continued with protests and legal actions nationwide.

He said the army personnel have also been trapped in the Chakravyuh by introducing the 'Agnipath' scheme.

"You will continue creating Chakravyuh and we will continue destroying it," he said.
