Rahul Gandhi accuses PM Modi of receiving kickbacks as Gujarat CM, BJP hits back

Mehsana, Gujarat, Dec 21 (IBNS): Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday here accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of taking kickbacks from two business groups when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, a charge that the BJP immediately rubbished calling Gandhi the biggest patron of corruption who is on bail in the National Herald case.

Rahul Gandhi alleged that Modi had received crores in kickbacks when he was serving as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Addressing the rally, Rahul Gandhi said: "In 6 months time, Sahara people have given money to PM Modi nine times."

He said: "Similarly, there is a record of Birla (Group) paying."

He said there are records of the payments and Modi must say if it is true. He said the proofs are with the Income Tax department for two and half years.

Demanding a  probe, he said  in Hindi “6 mahine mein 9 baar Sahara ke logon ne apni diary mein likha hai ki humne Narendra Modi ji ko paisa diya hai” (for six months nine times the people of Sahara recorded that in their diaries).

He also gave details of the crores paid.

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad called Rahul Gandhi's claims as 'baseless'.

"I condemn the shameless and baseless allegations of Rahul Gandhi, country will reject it," Prasad told media.

"I condemn the shameless and baseless allegations of Rahul Gandhi. He kept hurling accusations on the Prime Minister who is pure like the Ganga," said Prasad.

"Rahul Gandhi is the biggest patron of corruption in the last ten years of (Congress) being in power," he said.

"Congress has not spared the sky, the space, the land, the sea, anything in indulging in corruption," he said.

He never does his homework, said Prasad, trashing the allegations of Gandhi.

"He himself is on bail in the Rs 5000 crore National Herald case. His brother in law is also involved in land scam," said Prasad.

Prasad said Gandhi cannot influence the AugustaWestland case by hurling accusations against the PM endlessly.

Rahul Gandhi visited Gujarat on Wednesday.

Modi had resigned as Gujarat Chief Minister in 2014 after he was elected as the Prime Minister of the country following the BJP's landslide victory in the Lok Sabha polls in that year.
