Ranchi, Dec 28 (IBNS): Raghubar Das of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took oath as the first non-tribal chief minister of Jharkhand on Sunday at a ceremony at the Birsa Munda Football Stadium here.

However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as BJP president Amit Shah could not be present in the swearing-in as their flights could not take off in the foggy situation in New Delhi.

Four cabinet ministers-Nilkanth Singh Munda,  Chandreswar Prasad Singh, Louis Marandi  and  All Jharkhand Students' Union or AJSU's Chandraprakash Choudhary- also took oath.

A former employee with Tata Steel, 59-year-old Das earlier was MLA earlier winning five times from Jamshedpur East since 1995. He also served as the Deputy Chief Minister and the Urban Development Minister during the previous BJP led government in the state.

PM later tweeted: "Was to travel to Jharkhand to attend the oath taking ceremony of Shri Raghubar Das but am unable to do so due to weather conditions."

The BJP and its ally All Jharkhand Students’ Union won the state polls bagging 42 seats in the 81-member assembly.

Jharkhand had nine governments and three stints of President’s Rule since it was created in 2000.
