Chandigarh: Punjab Police has arrested an NRI near Fagwada, media reported citing police sources that the arrest is linked to the case of pro-Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh's escape from Hoshiarpur.

Amritpal Singh has been declared a fugitive by the Punjab Police after he escaped the cops during a crackdown against him and his aides on March 18.

Amritpal's whereabouts have been since unknown, but reports stated that he was last traced to Maranaia village in Hoshiarpur on March 28.

The arrested individual is identified as Jaswinder Singh Pangli an NRI, who is said to be a resident of Jagatpur Jatta village near Fagwada, India Today reported.

As the radical preacher fled the Hoshiarpur Police, a massive manhunt has been launched to catch him.

Punjab Police had made their first arrest since Amritpal Singh's escape from Maranaia village.

Several other people have been taken into custody in connection with this case, and the police are currently conducting a thorough investigation into them.

Furthermore, the police have reportedly found critical evidence against Amritpal Singh and his accomplice, Pappal Preet Singh, who also fled from Maranaia village.

As per the available information, the police are expected to make significant breakthroughs in the coming days regarding this case, said the report.

The case is believed to be linked to a drug-related gathering that occurred in Jagatpur Jatta village.

The police are continuously questioning anyone who was present at that gathering for further information.

Amritpal Singh and his accomplice Papalpreet Singh had escaped from Maranaia village at approximately 8:00 pm on March 28th.

However, the fact that the Punjab Police has failed to nab Amritpal Singh even after 22 days has raised doubts about its efficiency.

Amritpal Singh's second escape on March 28th has worsened matters for the police, adding to the concerns and criticisms over its credibility.
