Punjab: CM Channi's brother to contest as independent from Bassi Pathana

Chandigarh/UNI: Dr Manohar Singh, brother of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, has officially announced to contest as an independent candidate from Bassi Pathana (SC) seat.

The ruling Congress party has fielded sitting MLA Gurpreet Singh GP from this seat.

Dr Manohar Singh, who was an aspirant for Congress ticket from Bassi Pathana, had resigned from the post of Senior Medical Officer (SMO) from Kharar civil hospital, to contest the assembly election from Bassi Pathana.

The former SMO said he would fight the elections from Bassi Pathana as his supporters asked him to contest as an independent candidate.

The Congress on Saturday issued first list of its candidates for the upcoming polls.

Polling for Punjab assembly elections will be held on February 14 and the counting of votes will take place on March 10.
