Amritsar, July 6 (IBNS): Punjab CM Amarinder Singh on Saturday said he feels that a dynamic youth leader should become the President of the Congress in the upcoming days.

Rahul Gandhi stepped down as the president of the party this week.

"After unfortunate decision of @RahulGandhi to quit, hope to see another dynamic youth leader as @INCIndia president to galvanise party. Urge CWC to take note of young India’s need for a young leader, aligned to aspirations of its large youth population & with grassroots connect," Singh tweeted.

He also shared the resignation letter on his Twitter page.

Rahul, who became the Congress president in 2017, took responsibility for his party's defeat in the Lok Sabha polls and said he would continue to fight the ideology of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP once again defeated the Congress to form the central government for the second consecutive term.

Rahul said the Congress Working Committee should elect a new party president.

In a tweet where he shared his resignation letter, Rahul said: "It is an honour for me to serve the Congress Party, whose values and ideals have served as the lifeblood of our beautiful nation. I owe the country and my organisation a debt of tremendous gratitude and love. Jai Hind ."
