Punjab and Haryana HC stays Haryana government's move to grant reservation to Jats and others
Chandigarh, May 26 (IBNS) The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday stayed the Haryana state government's decision to grant 10 per cent reservation to the Jat and four other communities, media reported.
The HC asked the state government to make its stand clear on July 21, when the case will be next heard.
The Haryana Assembly, in March, passed the Haryana Backward Classes Bill, wherein it was proposed to include Jats and five other castes under the backward classes category and provide them reservation in government jobs and educational institutions.
Haryana was rocked by protests in February regarding the Jat reservation issue.
The HC was hearing a public interest litigation where it was mentioned that the the Manohar Lal Khattar-led government's decision to hike the reservation quota through the Bill was contradictory to a Supreme Court ruling regarding quota issues, media reported.
