Puducherry: Three suspended for dishonouring body of man who died due to COVID-19

Puducherry/UNI: Three persons were suspended for allegdly dishonouring the body of a man from Chennai who died here of COVID-19 while burying it, Chief Minister V Narayanasmay said here on Monday.

In an audio clip sent to the press here,the chief minister said that two staffs of the Local Administration department and one from health Department were suspended.

Expressing regret over the incident ,the chief minister said that an inquiry has been ordered and the culprits will be suitable punished.

Narayanasamy clarified that when the man tested positive for COVID after his death,his relatives said that they are not taking his body and requested the government in writing to take steps for his burial.

Whatever may be the cause of a death,the body be buried with respect,he added.

Stating that COVID 19 is spreading in Puducherry because of contacts,the chief minister said that through,the people are wearing masks,they are not following the rule of maintain social distancing properly.

Those coming from other states are allowing to enter Puducherry after proper checks, he said adding that some people used to enter Puducherry through short-cuts,and police was directed to take steps to prevent this.

He also called up on the people to be more careful.
