Proud of being Indian, deliberate attempt to distort remark: Aamir Khan

| | Nov 25, 2015, at 10:35 pm
Mumbai, Nov 25 (IBNS): After facing severe criticisms over his comment on the rising "intolerance" in the country, actor Aamir Khan on Wednesday stated that he never said he and his wife had intentions of leaving India.
He also mentioned that he is proud to be born in India while adding that there is a deliberate effort to distort his remark.

In a statement available with the media, Khan said: " We never did (have any intention of leaving), and nor would we like to in the future. Anyone implying the opposite has either not seen my interview or is deliberately trying to distort what I have said. India is my country, I love it, I feel fortunate for being born here, and this is where I am staying."

This comes after the 50-year-old had said : “I feel there is a sense of insecurity, there is a sense of fear... I think in the last 6 months...8 months, there has been a growing sense of despondency...Kiran and I have lived all our lives here...for the first time Kiran says we will move out of India...it is a very disastrous and a big statement for Kiran to make to me....She fears for her child...she fears what the atmosphere around us will be...she feels scared to open the newspapers everyday. So that does indicate that there is sense of growing disquiet, there is a sense of growing despondency...So that sense does exist in me to be quite honest.”

Besides several criticisms, a sedition case has been filed in a Kanpur court against the actor for his comment on the growing "intolerance" in the country.

Reports said the case, filed by a local lawyer in the Kanpur sessions court is expected to be heard on December 1.

It has been alleged in the court  that the actor tried to divide the country with his statement on intolerance at the Ramnath Goenka Awards for Journalism on Monday.

Coming down heavily on Khan for his remarks on intolerance, Shiv Sena on Wednesday said the actor was speaking the language of "treachery".

Dubbing Aamir 'Ranchhoddas', a character he played in the film '3 Idiots', Shiv Sena said, "Ranchhoddas should explain in which country is he going to live."

"Speaking of leaving the country is a language of treachery. Leave whatever glory this country has given you, here only," the Sena said in an editorial in party mouthpiece 'Saamana'.

Even he received flak from the film industry, with actor Anupam Kher asking the cinestar where they would like to move.

"Dear @aamir_khan. Did you tell Kiran that you have lived through more worse times in this country & but you never thought of moving out," Kher had wrote on Twitter.

Kher also took on Aamir's stance, who is seen promoting the country in its Incredible India advertisements.

Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor on Tuesday sent out a strong message to the 'PK' actor and asked him not to run away from situations when the 'system' needed  a correction.

"Mr.&Mrs. Amir Khan. When things are going wrong and the system needs correction, repair it,mend it.Don't run away from it. That is Heroism!" Kapoor tweeted.

BJP MP and actor Paresh Rawal hit out at Aamir and said a true patriot will never leave his motherland.

"Aamir is a fighter so he should not leave but change the situation in the country ! jeena yahan marna yahan !" Rawal had said.

"A true patriot will not run away n leave his motherland behind in turmoil or in troubled times (if any )...don't escape - build it ..A true patriot will not run away n leave his motherland behind in turmoil or in troubled times (if any )...don't escape - build it," the actor had said.
