President Ram Nath Kovind dissolves 16th Lok Sabha with immediate effect

New Delhi, May 25 (IBNS): President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday dissolved the 16th Lok Sabha with immediate effect.

"The Cabinet in its meeting held on 24.05.2019 has advised The President to dissolve the 16th Lok Sabha with immediate effect," read  an official statement.

"The President has accepted the advice of the Cabinet on 24.05.2019 and signed the Order dissolving the 16th Lok Sabha in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by Sub-clause (b) of Clause (2) of Article 85 of the Constitution," it said.

It is just days left before BJP strongman Narendra Modi will take oath as the Prime Minister of the nation for the second term.

Under his leadership, BJP-led NDA won the Lok Sabha polls as result of it was declared on Thursday.
