President pays tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary

New Delhi, Oct 31, (IBNS): President Pranab Mukherjee paid floral tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on the occasion of his birth anniversary at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday.

The officers  and staff of Rashtrapati Bhavan also paid floral tributes in front of a portrait of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in the Durbar Hall.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, an Indian barrister and statesman,  was one of the founding fathers of the Republic of India.

He was a social leader who played a leading role in the country's struggle for independence and guided its integration into a united, independent nation.

In India and elsewhere, he was often addressed as Sardar, which means Chief in Hindi, Urdu and Persian.
