President awards Ashok Chakra posthumously to martyr Hav Hangpan Dada

New Delhi, Jan 26 (IBNS): As India celebrates 68th Republic Day, President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday awarded the Ashok Chakra posthumously to Hav Hangpan Dada who was martyred while fighting terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir on May 27, 2016.

The Ashok Chakra is India's highest peacetime military decoration awarded for valor, courageous action or self-sacrifice away from the battlefield.

He killed three terrorists before laying down his life at nearly 12,500 feet.

His wife received the Ashok Chakra from the President at the national capital on Thursday amid the Republic Day celebration.

Hav Dada hailed from the Borduria village in the Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh.

He was with from the Assam Regiment and was on deputation with the Rashtriya Rifles.

The Indian Army will also release a documentary on his brevity.
