Prashant Kishor presented impressive data, but nothing on leadership: P Chidambaram

New Delhi/IBNS: Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Wednesday said election strategist Prashant Kishor's presentation to revive the grand old party included "very impressive data" and analysis but had nothing on the leadership issue.

"PK plan had nothing on the leadership issue. Didn't hear of any Priyanka for President proposal either," he said in an interview with NDTV countering the media reports which said Kishor insisted that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra be made the Congress chief.

The leadership issue, he said, would be resolved by the AICC with internal elections by the end of August.

Chidambaram said Kishor had presented "very impressive data" about "elections, voting patterns - by segment, by demographics and candidates".

"I don't think that the party has that kind of data in an understandable or retrievable form... His analysis of data was impressive. We intend to take action on some of the proposals," Chidambaram told NDTV.

Putting at rest months of speculation, Prashant Kishor on Tuesday declined an offer to join the Congress as part of the Empowered Action Group 2024 to strategise the roadmap for the next general elections.

In a tweet, Kishore had said: "I declined the generous offer of Congress to join the party as part of the EAG and take responsibility for the elections. In my humble opinion, more than me the party needs leadership and collective will to fix the deep rooted structural problems through transformational reforms."

"He is perhaps advising TRS, TMC and Jagan Reddy. He probably wants to retain his role as an advisor to these parties... He has to work out what his relation with IPAC is after he had accepted Congress's offer," Chidambaram told NDTV, making it clear IPAC's deal with TRS was not a factor for Congress.

Sources close to Prashant Kishor and the Congress had indicated to various media that the party was unwilling to accept the sweeping reforms Kishor suggested for the rejuvenation of the party.
