Prakash Raj gets bail in multiple voter registration case linked to 2019 polls

Bengaluru/IBNS: A Bengaluru court has granted bail to actor Prakash Raj in connection with allegations that he was registered as a voter in multiple states during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, according to media reports.

Raj is accused of omitting details of his alleged multiple voter registrations from his official election affidavit.

Court Grants Bail With Conditions

Chief Judicial Magistrate Jyoti Shantappa Kale granted Raj bail on the condition that he deposit Rs. 4,000 as a security amount and appear before the court for all future hearings.

The actor appeared before the court voluntarily on Friday after it had issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against him.

According to his counsel, Nagarjuna, the warrant could not be served as Raj had not received the court summons.

Actor Says He Learnt About Warrant Through Media

Raj's lawyer told the court that the actor came to know about the non-bailable warrant only through media reports.

The counsel also informed the court that Raj had surrendered his Tamil Nadu voter identity card.

What Are the Allegations?

The case arises from a private complaint filed by advocate K. Dilip Kumar, who alleged that Prakash Raj's name appeared on four electoral rolls across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.

The complainant claims that maintaining multiple voter registrations violates the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.

Affidavit Under Scrutiny

According to the complaint, when Prakash Raj contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Bengaluru Central as an Independent candidate, he declared only his Bengaluru voter registration in his election affidavit while allegedly failing to disclose his registrations in other states.

The matter is currently under judicial consideration, and the case remains pending before the Bengaluru court.
