Puducherry/UNI: A portion of the fuel tank of PSLV rocket launcher of explosive nature, caught in a fishermen's net off Vambakeerappalayam near here on Monday, was found missing.

It may be noted that a heavy object was caught  in the fishing net of the fishermen, who ventured into the sea on Monday, ten nautical miles from the coast. The fishermen brought the object back to the shore and dumped it on the beach.

Odeansaalai police were informed and they reached the spot. It was later identified as the fuel tank of PSLV rocket launcher with March 22, 2019 marked on its body.

Following this, ISRO was informed and its team from Sriharikotta reached Puducherry on Tuesday.

They inspected the tank and removed a portion with explosive nature (Polimer Explosive), but learned that a foot long portion of the expolive part was missing. The team urged the fishermen to return the same if anybody was keeping it as it may explode.

Following the incident, the security in the area has been tightened.

When the ISRO team planned to take the tank back, AIADMK legislature party leader Anbazhagan objected to it stating that it could be taken back only after paying compensation to the fishermen.

Discussionson the matter are underway.
