Ghaziabad, Dec 29 (IBNS): In almost a rerun of the Bulandshahr incident, a policeman was killed after he was hit by stones by a protesting mob following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in Ghaziabad on Saturday, media reports said.

The deceased has been identified as Suresh Vats.

According to information provided by several media, the incident occurred when several policemen were returning from their duties at Modi's rally.

The policemen were hit with stones by the mob when they tried to intervene a protest organised by Nishad community with demand of reservation.

Expressing sadness over the incident, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has asked the District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) to take strict legal action against the accused.

He has also offered a compensation of Rs. 40 lakh, pension for Vats's wife and Rs. 10 lakh to the deceased's father and mother. A government job has also been offered to one of Vats' family members by the state government.

In early December, inspector Subodh Kumar Singh was killed by a frenzied mob in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr after a violence broke out over suspicion of cow slaughter.
