Police recover huge cache of arms belonging to UNLF in Manipur’s Thoubal

Guwahati/IBNS: The Manipur police recovered a large stash of weapons including 15 AK series rifles in Thoubal district.

Police also apprehended three persons including an insurgent of banned outfit United National Liberation Front (UNLF).

Thoubal district police said that the recovered arms belong to banned outfit UNLF.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Manipur police on Sunday had launched a search operation at Huikap Awang Leikai Changa Loukoi area.

During the search operation, an unknown person had tried to escape on seeing the police team in suspicious behavior and police chased him and detained the person who identified as Laithangbam Praffullo Singh and he is an insurgent of UNLF.

The police officer further said that, on the UNLF insurgent’s disclosure, the police team conducted a search operation and found a water tank under the ground in a cowshed and on opening the water tank the police team found a large quantity of arms and ammunition concealed inside it.

The Thoubal district police led by Additional SP had recovered 13 AK-56 rifles with magazines, one AK-81 rifle with three magazines, one AK-86 rifle with three magazines, one M-16 rifle with magazine, one RPG launcher, one RPG shell, one M-16 A4-UBGL (40 mm grenade launcher) with one magazine, 200 numbers of 7.62x39 mm live rounds, 10 numbers of 5.56 mm live rounds.

Police also arrested two other persons identified as Laitonjam Kumar Singh and Wahengbam Tompok Singh who helped the UNLF insurgent to conceal the recovered arms and ammunition.
