PM offers prayer at Dakshineswar Kali temple, meditates at Belur Math
Kolkata, May 10 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Belur Math, Headquarters of Ramakrishna Math and Mission on Sunday morning and meditated for some time in Swamiji's bedroom alone.
Prior to this, he visited Dakshineswar temple of Goddess Kali and prayed before the mother Goddess by offering flowers.
In Belur Math, he stayed for nearly an hour and visited the main temple, where the shrine of Shri Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda is kept, Math courtyard, Swamiji’s bedroom, Swami Brahmanandaji Maharaj’s temple, Ma Sarada Devi’s temple and Swami Vivekananda’s temple successively and offered flowers in each temple.
He was flanked by Swami Suhitanandaji Maharaj, General Secretary, Belur Math and some other senior monks of the Math and then Modi met the Vice President of the Math, Swami Prabhanandaji Maharaj in the reception room of the Math, where the latter greeted him with a flower bouquet, ‘prasad’ comprising fruits and a collection of books and last but not the least, had a photo session with the monks of the Math chanting hymn ‘Om Hrim Ritam’ in front of the main temple of the Math.
Prime Minister was overwhelmed as he entered the bedroom of Swami Vivekananda.
He meditated for some time alone in that room, which comprises the turban of Swamiji, the stick he used, his ‘pakhwaj’ (musical instrument resembling percussion), his ‘kharam’ (shoe), the bed and table he used, a small crystal sculpture of Swamiji created by a French sculptor among other items and after that he visited the other temples to offer floral tribute.
He was presented with flower bouquet and several collections of books including Bible compilation, Gospel of Shri Ramakrishna, writings of Swami Vivekananda in small forms by the monks of Belur Math.
Among the other dignitaries present were Governor of West Bengal Keshari Nath Tripathi and MP Babul Supriya.
