PM Modi to take holy dip in Maha Kumbh tomorrow

New Delhi/IBNS: Prime minister Narendra Modi will on Wednesday take a holy dip at the Hindu festival Maha Kumbh Mela which is taking place at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, media reports said.

Modi is scheduled to arrive at the Prayagraj airport at 10:05 am. He is expected to take the holy dip at around 11-11:30 am.

The prime minister will take the holy dip days after at least 30 people were killed and 60 others injured in a stampede which took place at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.

Union home minister Amit Shah, defence minister Rajnath Singh, boxing icon Mary Kom, American billionaire businessman Steve Jobs' wife Laurene Powell Jobs were among the VIPs who attended the festival.

Attended by sadhus, ascetics, pilgrims, the  Kumbh Mela is the Hindu pilgrimage held every 12 years.

The Maha Kumbh or Grand Kumbh is held every 144 years.

This year's Maha Kumbh is significant as it coincides with the 12th Kumbh Mela.
