PM Modi to lay foundation stone of AIIMS in Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur (UP), Jul 22 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Gorakhpur on Friday to lay the foundation stone of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the media reported.
On arrival, Prime Minister Modi was welcomed by the Governor of Uttar Pradesh Ram Naik and the state's Chief Minister  Akhilesh Yadav,

The prime minister is also expected to initiate the renovation work of a fertiliser factory that has remained shut for the past three decades, according to media reports.

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday had approved the setting up of AIIMS under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) at an estimated cost of Rs. 1,011 crore, media reported.

Prime Minister Modi is also scheduled to address a rally in Gorakhpur, which is a key seat in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

After the recent uproar over attacks on Dalits in Gujarat and the Mayawati-Dayashankar Singh episode, political pundits believe this rally will be an important factor keeping the 2017 Assembly elections in mind, the media reported.
