PM Modi mourns RK Laxman's death

New Delhi, Jan 26 (IBNS): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday condoled the death of iconic Indian cartoonist RK Laxman and said the country will be grateful to him for bringing smiles on 'our' faces.

"India will miss you RK Laxman. We are grateful to you for adding the much needed humour in our lives & always bringing smiles on our faces," Modi tweeted.

"My condolences to the family & countless well-wishers of a legend whose demise leaves a major void in our lives. RIP RK Laxman," he said.

Laxman, whose creations have been appreciated by people for generations, passed away in Pune on Monday, media reports said.

He was 94.

Laxman was admitted to a hospital for the past couple of days.

According to reports, he was put on life support when his condition deteriorated on Sunday.

Born on Oct 24,1921, in  Mysore, Laxman was  best known for his creations 'The Common Man', for his daily cartoon strip.

The strip had gained popularity over the years as he targeted politicians for more than five decades.
