PM Modi launches Rs. 9,700-crore highway project in Bihar
Arrah, Bihar, Aug 18 (IBNS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched a highway project worth Rs. 9,700 crore while promising to "change the face of Bihar" that is set to go for a high-voltage Assembly election by November this year.
This is Modi's third visit to Bihar within a span of just one month after he became Prime Minister in May last year.
Under the highway project, there will be 10 roads, including a four-lane one from Buxar to Patna and a six-lane bridge at Koelwar in Arrah.
Modi said: "We have come with a plan to connect every corner of Bihar with the nation... Whether it is women’s safety or laying roads in Bihar, we will change the face of Bihar."
The Prime Minister also laid foundation for 23 skill training centres in Bihar.
According to media reports, BJP state leaders have hinted that the Prim e Minister could today announce the more than Rs. 50,000 crore in Central funds that he has promised Bihar.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the BJP's main rival in the Bihar elections, said he would wait for details before commenting.
In the Bihar elections, the BJP takes on a coalition of Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (U), Lalu Prasad's Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Congress and other smaller parties.

He said Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy has taken up the mission to enhance skill development among the youngsters of the nation.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was not present at the PM's event, but sent his Cabinet Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh at Arrah.
Modi was accompanied by Union Ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Nitin Gadkari, among others.
The Prime Minister is also expected to make a special announcement for Bihar as he will address a public rally in Saharsa in the afternoon.
